Proof of Insurance Now Required for Cuba

rbc-insurance-starfish     The Cuban government recently announced that beginning on May 1 of 2010, visitors will be required to show proof of emergency travel medical insurance from their home country. Travellers will need to present an insurance policy, insurance certificate, or travelling assistance card valid for insurance for the total duration of their stay in Cuba.

Anyone who does not carry proof of coverage must purchase it at the point of entry. This coverage is not nearly as comprehensive or cost effective as insurance purchased in Canada, so do not wait to get coverage there!

Travelonly’s preferred supplier for Emergency Travel Medical Insurance is RBC.  Their medical coverage is unlimited, and they can also provide cancellation and interruption, and baggage insurance.  RBC has extensive experience in working with Asistur, the Cuban government’s assistance agency, to help and to settle claims for anyone travelling to Cuba.  Now more than ever, RBC’s travel medical coverage is critical to ensuring that you can travel with confidence, and as a preferred partner, I can purchase the insurance for you at the best pricing available!

NEW Airport Rules:  (as of Dec 25, 2009)
In light of the Christmas day mayhem at Detroit international Airport there have been a number of new safety precautions put in place.  Soon all airports will be using the full body scan to help speed up the process and increase security of the flight. There are few things you can do to keep it simple.
-Arrive at the airport for departures about three hours before your scheduled flight.  This is really important for flights to the U.S..
-Keep your carry on bag within the size limits
-Check any products you really do not need.
-Keep everything in your carry on in it's original container and keep them small.
-Get doctors note for perscriptions and keep them in their original packages
-Keep your flight entertainment simple.  Books and in flight movies will be the norm for awhile.
-Have passports at the ready to keep the lines moving smoothly

Get a Passport!
Us requirements dictate a passport for Canadians

The new passport regulations came into effect Jan 23,2007 regarding air travel into the United States. Even flights that are only stopping on American soil must have passports. For the ease of travel, just get a Canadian Passport and use it! Land travel is made simpler with a valid passport as well.

26 MAY 2009: Here’s a new rule that you should know about. Middle names that are included on passports and drivers' licenses, will soon have to be reflected on the passenger's ticket when they fly within the US, and by December, if they fly overseas.
The requirement from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is supposed to make it easier for travellers, airlines and the TSA to avoid ID hassles at airports. Because the master lists of questionable travellers are apparently in full-name format, the TSA wants to make sure that travel documents conform to its lists.

The requirement was supposed to take effect May 15 for domestic travel, but has been pushed back a month or so.

The new rule apparently stipulates that passengers must travel under their name as it appears on the ID utilized to board their flight.  That typically means a passport or a driver's license domestically, and a passport or "enhanced" driver's license internationally.

Under the new rule, when making flight reservation, each airline is supposed to obtain the full name of the passenger and pass it along to the TSA. The ticket and/or boarding pass should exactly match the identification used.
Dec  21, 2007 News release
Today (December 21, 2007), Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced that effective January 31, 2008, all travelers, including U.S. citizens, entering the United States through land and sea ports of entry will no longer have the option of orally declaring their citizenship. This previously accepted, but rare, practice of proving citizenship through oral declaration will no longer be sufficient.

What does the January 31, 2008 discontinuation of the oral citizenship declaration option mean to you and your clients?

  • Currently, CLIA member lines generally require proof of citizenship and a government-issued ID for boarding. This typically means a driver’s license along with proof of citizenship in the form of a:
    • Passport
    • Original or certified copy of birth certificate
    • Naturalization papers (for U.S. Naturalized citizens)
  • These requirements have been industry standards, but will now be required by law and enforced as of January 31, 2008.
  • Cruise passengers on international voyages who do not have proper citizenship and identification documentation will not be allowed to board their cruise after January 31, 2008.
  • Once again, as of January 31, 2008, travelers, including U.S. citizens, seeking to enter the United States through land and sea ports of entry must present documents proving citizenship (such as a birth certificate or passport) and government-issued identification (such as a driver’s license).

It's just got easier to renew your passport!

The new procedures which commenced Aug. 15, 2007 will require only two new photo's, the old passport, fill out a short form, and $87. The applicant must reside in Canada and have done so at the time of their previous application. They must be at least 16, their passport was not damaged, lost or stolen and issued under the exact same name.

As well, any adult citizen with a valid Canadian passport can act as guarantor for someone applying for their first passport. The guarantor will sign the back of the photo to verify it is the person who is applying.

Give us a call if you need help with this process.
